Socrates, Galileo and John Terry

In 399 BC Socrates was found guilty of “corrupting the youth of Athens” and “not believing in the gods of the state”. He was sentenced to death by poisoning by a jury of his peers.

In 1633 Galileo was found “vehemently suspect of heresy”, for holding the opinion that the Earth moves. He spent the rest of his life under house arrest.

The Goddamn Particle!

The Higgs Boson is just that, a Boson. I freely admit that my knowledge of Bose-Einstein statistics is less than minimal. But what kind of moron could be seduced into an interest in particle physics by the use of such a contrived and stilted soubriquet as ‘the God particle’?

I hereby call for the public execution, or at least flogging, of any journalist using that benighted moniker!
